In her work Barnet Kansil creates transient installations of places, locations and spaces which she photographs. Her work is influenced by her studies in cultural anthropology, her personal interest in cultures and myths and by the history of her Indonesian family.

Untill December 11, 2016 her work is shown at the exhibition PS Camera in Museum Hilversum (Hilversum, NL). For this long-term project (an initiative of Koos Breukel) contemporary Dutch photographers make pictures with the analogue camera of renowned photographers in the history of Dutch photography.

Barnet Kansil got the opportunity to work with the technical camera of Jean Ruiter (1942-2005). Jean Ruiter travelled a lot. Barnet Kansil also travels, but through time, through memory, through imagination, and towards another culture. The culture of her Indonesian family who came to the Netherlands after World War II. She tries to relate to the untold and hidden stories from her Indonesian family; stories about loss, about displacement and a search for a new life.
